6 Benefits of Milk Kefir + How to Make it in 3 Easy Steps with VIDEO
August 17, 2015

Kefir is a fermented milk or water beverage that contains beneficial bacteria that can give your immune system a boost, among many other health benefits.  It’s also one of my most favourite fermented foods.

As it’s a whole, natural food the bacteria are better and stronger at doing their job inside the body.

Kefir is a fermented milk product that tastes sour and a bit like a drinkable yogurt.

Kefir contains high levels of B vitamins, especially B12, calcium, magnesium,  vitamin K2, biotin, folate, enzymes and probiotics. The nutritional content can vary based on the milk used, and region where it is produced. Yet even with the variation, kefir has superior nutrition.

Because of kefir’s nutritional profile it has been show to benefit the body in these ways:

  1. Boost Immunity
  2. Heal Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  3. Build Bone Density
  4. Fight Allergies
  5. Improve Lactose Digestion
  6. Support Detoxification

These are a few of the advantages of having kefir each day.

One of the best and least expensive ways to get healthy bacteria through our diet is actually to obtain milk and convert it to kefir ourself. Goat, coconut or cows milk can all be used.  For some people who are lactose intolerant, kefir can be tolerated as the lactose is broken down during the fermentation process.

The best grains or culture to use are the live organisms, that can be obtained from a friend who may have some or they can be bought online.

If Milk Kefir is something you’re keen to try, you will need to get yourself some grains / culture.  If you’re in the Mosman Park area in Perth I can share some – first in first dressed.

For anyone else, they are easy to come across online, for example;
